Saturday Photo Hunt - Practical

Join the Photo Hunt. Go here for details.

Be reflective...and stay away from the theatre as much as you can. Stay out of the theatrical world, out of its petty interests, its inbreeding tendencies, its stifling atmosphere, its corroding influence. Once become “theatricalized,” and you are lost, my friend; you are lost

- Minnie Maddern Fiske,as quoted in "Mrs Fiske: Her Views on Actors,
Acting and the Problems of Production" by Alexander Woollcott (1917)

I would just like to mention Robert Houdin who in the eighteenth century invented the vanishing birdcage trick and the theatre matinee - may he rot and perish. Good afternoon - Orson Welles

I forgot to say in my previous post that the majority of my time, at present, is being taken up with costume sourcing and making for Treasure Island. The sewing machine is set up on my computer desk (I can click the mouse but not much else); materials, hats, shoes and various items from charity shops appear in every room in the house (nothing in the bathroom yet???); the spare room bed can't be seen, so let's hope no unexpected visitors arrive; and cottons, trimmings, etc are being trailed all over the carpet.

So........ here are a few pictures of the very practical art of dressmaking:

First you have to have a sewing machine..............

This is the bodice of a dress for Lady Trelawney.......

This is a tunic for Jim Hawkins..........

This is the bed in the spare bedroom...........

and this is the dining room table..................

More pictures as I progress

Nice humorous take on the theme!! :)
Seems you're very talented too, I wish I knew how to sew...

Thanks, Sabine. I'm glad I came up with this 'cos I was really stuck trying to find something else suitable.

Fun take on the theme and what a lot of work that must be. I started as a theatre major although I switched later and that didn't end up being my major. I was in the acting/directing part but I enjoyed working in the costume shop a lot. This post brought back memories.

I'm sorry I missed you last week (but late is better than never!): at least you were still in my feed! I really need a sewing machine because I rip so many things so often. But I'll never be as able as you to create such wonderful things.
