This sculpture, Inner Compulsion by Peter Randall Page, are at the entrance to the Wellcome Trust Millennium Building, adjacent to Wakehurst Place, which aims to house seeds from 10% of the world's flora by 2009 in their seed bank.
These beautiful gardens and the house, at Ardingly in West Sussex, are owned by the National Trust and funded, administered and maintained by the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. I was last there in the spring and the magnolias were magnificent. Here are some more pictures for your edification:

Every time I go to a National Trust place I promise myself that I'll use my membership more frequently, then time passes and I find I've paid far more in membership fees than if I'd just paid entrance charges. Although I've done quite well this year, so far. And it's for a good cause.

Is the inner compulsion that of the artist? I love them. I could try to follow the lines in each ball for half a day, seeing if each one is like the other. Excellent shot.

Thank you, everyone. Yes the sculptures were very tactile and there was a very strong urge to touch them and follow the lines with your fingers (which, I noticed, most people seemed to do).
