The good times of today, are the sad thoughts of tomorrow - Bob Marley
I was sad today to hear of the death of 'Good Time' George Melly. This larger than life jazz singer, writer, critic, raconteur and surrealist finally gave in, aged 80, to the cancer and dementia that he had been living with for some time, although he was still touring and performing up until early June. He said that, as a surrealist, he quite enjoyed the dementia.
Go here to read a proper tribute, my writing skills aren't good enough. All I know is he was an important part of my young adulthood and was one of a small number to introduce me to blues and jazz. I shall be forever grateful.
